María José is an expert on communication and policy issues. She has more than 10 years of experience researching issues related to the changes of society with the intensive use of communication technologies. She holds a PhD in Political Studies, specializing in Political Communication.
She has Bachelor’s degree in Comparative History from the Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador, and has a Master’s degree on Intercultural Communication from the University of Maryland. She has worked on digital media with the private and the public sector. Her research interests are cybersecurity and citizen political participation and communication with the use of social media. Her advocacy efforts focus on open government, e-participation, e-democracy, cyber security and internet governance.
